BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals split their Interstate 8 baseball doubleheader at Parma Western on Wednesday while the Quincy Orioles swept the Bronson Vikings in a Big 8 Conference twin bill.
The Cardinals won the opening game of the doubleheader that was postponed for 24 hours because of Tuesday’s weather 8-3 but they dropped the second contest 10-2.
First game winning pitcher Evan Porter went the distance. Brayden Lackey drove in three runs. Coleten Calhoun had three hits including a double. Dayton Ennis had two hits and two RBIs. Drake Thornton also had a pair of hits and scored twice.
Porter and Brady Massey drove in the Coldwater runs in the second game.
Coldwater is now 12-11 overall and 7-1 in the Interstate 8.
Quincy improved to 12-6 overall and 6-2 in the Big 8 Conference thanks to 4-2 and 11-3 wins over Bronson.
Quincy broke a scoreless tie in the opener with a three run fifth inning. Jimmy Maynard had two of the three Quincy hits. Brennen Allman pitched five shutout innings and was the winning pitcher. Ryan Kempter pitched two innings to get the save.
Kestin Goodman had Bronson’s lone extra base hit with a double.
The Orioles offense erupted for 13 hits in the second game. Christian Craven drove in four runs for Quincy. Kempter added three hits. Winning pitcher Mason Graves tossed a three hitter as he pitched a complete game.
Goodman led the Bronson offense in the second game as he had two hits including a home run.
