SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Michigan Fifth District Congressman Tim Walberg visited storm ravaged areas in the western part of his district on Friday.
He promised the federal government will do all it can to help storm victims get back on their feet.
He was given a tour of the hardest hit area near Sherwood by Branch County Undersheriff Keith Eichler.
Walberg also made stops on Friday in St. Joseph, Cass and Berrien Counties.
Governor Whitmer declared a state of emergency for Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, Branch, and Cass counties after four tornados swept through those counties.
Branch County Emergency Management Director Tim Miner says significant damage took place along a six-mile path in Branch County.
He reported nine homes were destroyed while another four homes sustained major damage. There were 24 homes that received minor damage while 19 homes experienced superficial damage.
Donations for storm victims continue to be collected. The Union City village office is collecting many personal items. You can drop off the items at the Village office during business hours or contact them at (269) 788-8453 to arrange item drop offs.
The Southern Michigan Bank & Trust branch in Union City and the Village of Union City office both have canisters for monetary donations.
