Hilda Rose Cornish, 97, of Reading went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 7, 2024 surrounded by her family.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, May 19, 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 136 East Chicago Road, Coldwater.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home – George White Chapel, Quincy, Michigan.
She was born Feb 26, 1927 in Rudolph, Ohio to Purl And Rozena Trott. Her family purchased a farm near Reading, Michigan in 1929 where she was raised, graduating from Reading High School in 1944.
Hilda married Mack Cornish February 27, 1947, who preceded her in death in 2015.
She attended the Church of the Holy Spirit in Coldwater, Michigan. Hilda retired from the Coldwater Regional Center.
Hilda enjoyed buying and restoring antique furniture, which she and Mack sold at their antique store in Allen and at the Centreville Antique Market.
Gardening and planting trees were a passion on their 14 acres in Algansee that she and Mack bought in 1956 and where she spent the rest of her life.
She was an accomplished pinochle player and for many years she and Mack participated in rotating card parties with the Simpsons, Nolands, Campbells, Browns, Kipkers and the Brunos, all of them dear friends she survived.
Hilda loved music, playing piano and jitterbugging with Mack. She enjoyed traveling; Israel, California, up north and down south being favored destinations.
Hilda had a deep love for her Lord Jesus and lived out her faith by loving others, impacting many with her compassion and kindness.
She is survived by daughters Rebecca Swaggerty, Rossville, GA; Kathleen (Jeff) Guise, Reading; sons Max Cornish, Reading; Larry (Maureen) Cornish, Coldwater and Jeff Cornish, Reading; grandchildren Nathaniel (April) Nickloy, Sara (Todd) Holden, Jem Cornish, China Cornish, Abby Guise, Anne (Todd) Kunkle, Forest (Cornel) Chacon, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Mack, Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Sam Cornish, sister Mary Dolson and brothers Edwin and Harold Trott.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Church of the Holy Spirit.
