Mary Bernice Roach, 100, of Sherwood passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Matteson Cemetery in Bronson.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Bronson.
She was born November 18, 1923, to John and Bernice (Inde) McLatcher in Auburn, IN. She married William Roach, and he preceded her in death on September 6, 1956. Mary was a strong woman that was completely devoted to her family.
She began her working career early in her life at Siler’s Root Beer Stand in Bronson but would ultimately retire from Douglas Auto Tech in 1989 after 42 years of faithful service. Mary was a member of the Coldwater Eagles and was an avid animal lover, especially her beloved cats. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, bird watching, reading Women’s World magazine, word search puzzles, and most of all, dancing.
As a fan of NASCAR, Mary liked to watch Jeff Gordon and if there wasn’t a good race to watch, she could always count on watching Donald Trump, Tucker Carlson, Glenn Beck, Paula Deen, or Guy Fieri all of whom she loved to keep up with. Mary was also a talented baker; a talent she always looked forward to sharing with her family, especially her chocolate peanut butter cakes.
Though work and family always came first, Mary truly knew how to make the most of life as well, including a treasured trip to see Neil Diamond in concert with her son Jerry. Mary was an honest woman that never mixed her words; a trait that coupled well with her value for hard work and above all else her family. After a day’s work, Mary always made sure to enjoy just one cold Pabst Blue Ribbon to acknowledge the labors of the day, but more importantly the people she got to share those moments with.
Mary achieved many accomplishments throughout her lifetime, but none were greater than the day she became a grandmother to which she was second to none.
She will be dearly missed as a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.
Mary leaves behind her son Jerry Roach of Sherwood; her sisters Dorothy Heator of Litchfield, Tressa Noble of Coldwater; her daughter-in-laws Peggy Roach of Centreville, Carolyn Roach of Colon, Sonnie Roach of Bronson; her grandchildren Rhonda (Doug) Dell, Amy Roach, Ric Roach, David Donbrock, Shannon Calixte, Charles Wall, Michele (David Leis) Wall, Tonya (Brad) Bell, Heather (Nathan) Hollar, Chad (Jackie) Roach, Erin (Jad) Gleue, Kyle Roach, Tara (Jason Shoup) Roach; several great grandchildren; her many loving nieces and nephews, and her beloved cats P.J., Smokey, and Sis.
In addition to her husband William, she was preceded in death by her parents; her children Robert Roach, Nancy Wall, Larry Roach, Ronald Roach; her siblings Mildred Bradley, Joan Gales, Josephine Copenhafer, Richard McLatcher, Edward McLatcher, Martin McLatcher, John McLatcher, Theodore McLatcher; her three infant granddaughters, two grandsons Robert Roach Jr. and Dwayne Donbrock; the father of her son Jerry Russell Reichard; and her son-in-law Charles Wall.
