BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals managed to get a split of their Interstate 8 doubleheader at Jackson Northwest on Tuesday as they dropped the first game 13-3 but came back to win 5-4 in a 10 inning nightcap.
Northwest put the first game away early by scoring 12 runs in the first two innings. Drake Thornton had two hits for Coldwater.
The Cardinals got the winning run in the top of the tenth of the nightcap as darkness was gathering. Thornton was the winning pitcher. He along with Ethan Parker both had three hits.
Coldwater is now 13-14 overall and 8-2 in the Interstate 8.

Union City defeated Big 8 Conference rival Quincy 2-1 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. Union City winning pitcher Eli Payne held Quincy to just two hits as he went the distance. The only run he allowed was unearned.
The second game was rained out. It will be made up next Thursday, May 23.
