VERMONTVILLE, MI (WTVB) – It’s a great week to be a Union City Charger.
After the boy’s golf team captured the school’s first Big 8 Conference championship in that sport on Tuesday, the Union City track and field teams won Big 8 titles on Wednesday as they swept the Conference meet hosted by Maple Valley.
Union City dominated the boys meet as they won by 61 1/2 points. The Chargers had 139 points followed by Quincy with 77 1/2 and Concord with 74 1/2. Bronson finished in sixth place.
First place finishers for Union City were Hunter Sinke (400), Ben Gautsche (1600), Jason Shoop (3200) and Logan Cole (shot put and discus). Union City won the 3200 relay thanks to the team of Shoop, Cohen Burdick, Malachi Payne and Gautsche.
Quincy got wins from Clayton Benson (300 hurdles) and Alex Dunn (high jump).
Bronson’s Boston Bucklin won the 800.
Union City won the girls meet by 30 points over Quincy. The Chargers had 145 points followed by Quincy with 115 and Concord with 84. Bronson finished sixth.
Charger winners were Skyler Fraley (3200) and Nevada Gillons (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and long jump). Union City won the 400 relay thanks to the team of Alaina Laber, Naomi Schwark, Attica Hoath and Gillons.
Quincy got wins from Kendyl Musielewicz (800) and Brooke McVicker (pole vault). Quincy won the 3200 relay thanks to the team of Raylee Fulton, Musielewicz, Sadie Miller and Katharina Paschke.
