COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal softball team wasn’t going to let Tuesday afternoon’s brief downpours get in the way of a final tune-up prior to the start of their tournament run. So the Cardinals entertained the Three Rivers Wildcats in a pair of scheduled five-inning games that were moved to Heritage Park due to unplayable field conditions at the Rotary Softball Complex.
The Wildcats collected 30 total hits in their sweep of the Cardinals, winning 16-7 in the opener and 11-3 in the nightcap that was called after four innings due to darkness.
In the first game, Mya Porter had three hits, while cousin Rylie VanAken had a double and a triple and drove in two runs. Coley Burkhardt and Maddie Moore each singled and doubled, and Maren DeBeau had a 2-run double.
Kenzie Searing had two hits and drove in all three Cardinal runs in the second game.
Coldwater falls to 13-22 overall. They will host an MHSAA Division 2 District tournament on Saturday, facing Pennfield at 10 a.m.
