COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In its 31st year, the annual duck race in Coldwater continues to bring in the money.
2,365 ducks were purchased for Saturday’s event, which combined with other sponsorship dollars, raised over $20,000 for the Coldwater Exchange Duck Race. Organizers estimate that over $800,000 has been raised since the fundraiser began, formerly known as the Great Hospice Duck Race.
A duck adopted by Virginia White of Coldwater was the first across the finish line on the Sauk River at Waterworks Park, winning her $2,024 donated by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Joe Balogh finished second, winning a half ounce 24karat gold bullion coin donated by Union Pallet and Container, and Shanna Buckley won $1,000 cash donated by Swift and Skidmore Grain Reclaiming LLC for finishing third. Prizes were awarded for the first 25 ducks in the race.
Flip Johnson was the winner of the Ducknitary Race, with Branch County Probate Judge Kirk Kashian finishing last to that race, to claim the “Lame Duck” prize.
Monies raised from the event go to various community organizations and projects supported by the Coldwater Noon Exchange Club.
