COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The recently passed golf cart ordinance in Ovid Township will be reviewed further by the Branch County Board of Commissioners.
The ordinance was adopted by the Ovid Township Board on June 10 as the township became the latest Branch County community to allow the use of golf carts.
Violations would be considered civil infractions. The first offense could lead to a $100 fine. The second offense may result in a $300 fine with third and subsequent offenses leading to a $500 fine.
Commissioner Tom Matthew said during Thursday’s work session the fines were excessive and that the ordinance should be sent back to the township.
Commission Chair Tim Stoll pointed out the Commissioners don’t have to approve the ordinance but they can disapprove it.
It was agreed to schedule the Ovid Township golf cart ordinance for the Commissioners work session on July 11.

Never should have been OK’d in the first place. These golf carts pose a danger for cars, bikers, and motorcycles. They are bad enough in campgrounds. I guarantee golf carts will increase the accident rate and road rage. They belong on a golf course only. That’s why they call them golf carts.
