UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Redbirds 14U baseball team swept a doubleheader from Union City on Monday night by scores of 10-2 and 7-1.
Matthew Hurley earned the win for Coldwater as he allowed no hits and two runs over two innings, striking out four and walking three. Will Knowlan threw two innings of scoreless relief and struck out five batters.
Knowlan led Coldwater with two hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Mason Whelan and Matthew Hurley each drove in two runs for Coldwater.
Luke Stout was the winning pitcher for Coldwater in the second game as he gave up two hits and one run over four innings, striking out nine and walking one.
Knowlan threw one inning of shutout ball in relief.
Knowlan and Stout each collected two hits. Hurley drove in two runs. Logan Turner had an RBI.
The Coldwater Redbirds 14U squad welcomes Athens on Monday for their next game.
