SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a 89-year-old woman who may have been a drowning victim on Monday.
Rescue crews were dispatched to a residence on Beech Bay Drive on the south side of Union Lake at about 12:20 p.m. on Monday after Nancy Sines was found face down in the water by her husband and neighbors.
Sines was pulled from the water but attempts to revive her were unsuccessful and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that according to information gathered, Sines was pulling weeds along the shoreline and fell into the water.
It’s not known yet if she fell in or had a possible medical issue. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Branch Country Sheriff Deputies were assisted by Life-Care Ambulance, the Sherwood Fire Department, Lighthouse Funeral Home and the Sheriff’s Department Victim Services Unit.
