ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – The new Steuben County Justice Center officially opened for business on Monday.
The modern three story building was built across the street from the Steuben County Community Center and it replaces the historic 155-year-old Steuben County Courthouse for judicial matters.
The old courthouse opened in 1869 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the mid 70s.
But its small courtrooms and lack of A.D.A. compliance made the building antiquated by modern standards. The lack of space was a major concern while a major trial was being conducted.
Ground for the new building was broken last September.
