BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A boil water advisory for the southwest side of Bronson will remain in effect until at least Thursday.
Bronson City Manager Brandon Mersman says the first water sample from Monday came back POSITIVE from a home in this area.
The City of Bronson will draw a sample Tuesday with results expected on Wednesday.
The City will also sample on Wednesday as well. The City needs two negative tests in a row in order to lift the advisory.
Mersman says these tests are taken 24 hours apart in accordance to guidelines from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.
The earliest possible release of this advisory is now Thursday, July 4th.
The advisory was issued on Monday afternoon due to a drop in pressure in a section of the water distribution system.
The areas affected include:
• All of South Douglas Street
• South Walker Street (100 & 200 block) between Compton Street and US-12
• Compton Street (200 block) between South Walker Street and South Douglas Street,
• West Chicago Street at the following addresses: 139, 215, 245, and 307 West Chicago Street.
• West Corey at the following addresses: 139 & 140 West Corey
City officials says because of the drop in pressure in that area, bacteria contamination may have occurred in the water system. They say bacteria are generally not harmful and are common throughout the environment.
Residents in the affected area are advised to bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food until further notice.
