COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A request from the Coldwater Fire Department to purchase a new F-150 pickup truck which is included in the 2024-2025 fiscal year budget is on Monday night’s City Council agenda.
Fire Chief David Schmaltz says the new vehicle would replace the 2014 Ford Explorer assigned to the Fire Marshal as the department tries to replace staff vehicles every 10 years. He adds the 2014 vehicle also has a significant amount of hours and reoccurring issues.
Schmaltz says they are looking to purchase a crew cab pick-up truck with a cap instead of a smaller SUV which will give the department a vehicle that can be used for more than just a daily driver.
Three dealerships, including two locally, submitted government priced quotes. It’s being recommended a quote of $75,367 from Cole Ford Lincoln of Coldwater be accepted even though it was over $2,100 more than a quote from a Lansing dealership.
This is permitted by the City’s purchasing policy for differences of five percent or less. Schmaltz also points out Cole
Ford Lincoln is local and they have the truck on the lot which means the department could take immediate possession whereas the other manufacturers would take six to nine months for delivery.
