COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Tibbits Opera House has announced the appointment of Brian Sage as its new Artistic Director, at the close of the current Tibbits Summer Theatre season.
Sage succeeds Chad Tallon, who is serving as Interim Artistic Director for the 2024 Tibbits Summer Theatre season. Currently directing “Rent”, Tibbits officials say Sage brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished artistic vision “that promises to enrich the theatre’s legacy.”
“My relationship with Tibbits Summer Theatre began in the summer of 1994 as an actor and has continued into the present day,” said Brian Sage. “While this 30-year journey hasn’t been consecutive, Tibbits has been my artistic anchor, shaping my aesthetic and fostering my growth as both actor and director.”
“I’ll focus on programming that entertains and explores diverse storytelling, expanding the human experience. ‘Rent’ is a significant step in that direction. Leveraging my production and management experience, I aim to enhance operations to ensure Tibbits delivers exceptional theatre.”
Sage holds an MFA in Acting from Wayne State University and a BA in Theatre Performance from Western Michigan University. He has earned honors at regional theatres such as Tipping Point Theatre and The Encore Musical Theatre Company, garnering multiple nominations for the prestigious Wilde Awards.
Christine Delaney, Executive Director at Tibbits Opera House, expressed enthusiasm about Sage’s appointment, saying, “I am thrilled to welcome Brian as our Tibbits Summer Theatre Artistic Director. With his rich history at Tibbits and extensive experience as an actor, director, and educator, Brian brings an inspiring perspective to our team. We eagerly anticipate his leadership.”
