COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A representative from the Michigan Department of Transportation Aviation Unit told Branch County Commissioners during their work session last Thursday that the Branch County Memorial Airport is one of the highest ranked airports in the State of Michigan.
Hilary Hoose said there are approximately 208 licensed public use airports in Michigan. She stated that the Branch County Memorial Airport was ranked fifth overall for economic impact and is rated a Tier I airport which is the best rating possible. Hoose pointed out the numerous improvements that have been made in recent years.
She added the airport was fortunate to have an active airport zoning ordinance.
Hoose also reported the Branch County airport has a State economic impact of $11 million with a direct labor income impact of over $3 million locally.
The airport is involved in the community with the local flying club and the yearly fly-in breakfast, as well as the Branch County Amateur Radio Club’s field day and Operation Good Cheer.
