BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The pattern of active weather continued overnight as a series of severe thunderstorms pounded Branch County.
At least four severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Branch County between midnight and 1:30 a.m.
The storms featured heavy rain, lightning and wind gusts as high as 36 miles an hour as measured at the Branch County Memorial Airport.
The MSU Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm measured almost an inch-and-a-half of rain since late Monday night which included over an inch of rain that fell between midnight and 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
That’s on top of the nearly four inches of rain that fell from the remnants of Hurricane Beryl last week. For the month of July, the weather station has measured 5.63 inches of rain.
The National Weather Service reports just under two inches of rain (1.86) was measured in Quincy.
Consumers Energy reports 824 customers in Branch County lost their power because of the storms. The outages were mostly scattered although 180 customers west of the Branch County Memorial Airport were without power on Tuesday morning.
There were 959 outages reported in St. Joseph County while 295 customers in Hillsdale County and another 426 customers in Calhoun County were without power.
Over 4,500 Consumers Energy customers system wide lost their electricity. The utility is listing restoration times of early Tuesday afternoon on the outage page of their web site.
