COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Mayor Tom Kramer wants the city to end marijuana grow facilities in areas zoned D-2 heavy industry.
The Coldwater Planning Commission approved a motion from Kramer last August that the city begin the process of eliminating special use permits for growth facilities in the industrial park. But nothing has changed since that time.
Kramer said during Monday’s Planning Commission meeting there was an opportunity now to move forward with Amanda O’Boyle taking over from the retiring Meghan Angell as the City Attorney.
He indicated the market place may dictate what happens in the future.
Retail marijuana operations would not be affected.
After further discussion, a consensus of Planning Commission members agreed with Kramer.
City Manager Keith Baker said something in writing could be put together for review at the next Planning Commission meeting.
I’m with the mayor. No growing weed in the industrial park. Michigan will be sorry it embraced the marijuana culture and legalized it just for more tax revenue. People are crying now about the cigarette industry and the health issues it has caused to smokers. A few years from now smokers of marijuana will be crying about health issues and addiction. They will be wanting government intervention to stop it but for many it will be too late.
