LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s unemployment rate went up in June for the second straight month.
According to data released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, Branch County’s unemployment rate in June was four-point-four percent after being at three-point-eight percent in May.
Despite the increase, Branch County had the 12th lowest unemployment rate among Michigan’s 83 counties.
The report stated not seasonally adjusted jobless rates rose in all 17 Michigan labor market areas over the month which was not a surprise to Labor Market Information Director Wayne Rourke.
He said, “Michigan regions experienced typical jobless rate gains during June. The majority of regions saw labor force levels increase over the month and the year.”
Unemployment rates went up last month in neighboring counties. St. Joseph County had a jobless rate of four-point-nine percent while it was at five-point-five percent in Calhoun County and five-point-four percent in Hillsdale County.
Michigan’s June unemployment rate went up to 4.1 percent after being at 3.9 percent in May.
Unemployment rates in June ranged from three-point-six percent in Grand Traverse County to seven-point-nine percent in Oscoda County.
