COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – School officials across the state now know how much funding they will get from Lansing after Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a $23.4 billion education spending plan for Fiscal Year 2025 this week.
While the Governor called the budget historic, Coldwater Superintendent Paul Flynn says it still leaves a lot of unanswered questions.
Flynn points out the budget reduces the amount districts contribute to retirement systems.
He calls this a shuffling of dollars.
Even though Whitmer touted such items as free breakfast and lunch as well as free preschool for 4-year-olds, concerns have been raised about cuts in school safety and mental health.
