COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Branch County Circuit Court sentencing hearing was held on Monday for a former coach in the Quincy Community School District who entered into a plea agreement with Branch County Prosecutors on May 20.
57-year-old Scott Michael Signor of Quincy was ordered to serve one year in the Branch County Jail and was placed on probation for five years after he entered a no contest plea to assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed five charges that were filed following a Michigan State Police investigation.
Part of the plea agreement calls for Signor to register as a sex offender with the State of Michigan. Under terms of his probation, Signor can not possess drugs, alcohol or firearms. He must also stay out of bars.
The female victim in the case told detectives the assaults started taking place when she was 16. Court documents also stated that a 2020 Quincy Police Department investigation into the allegations was dropped when she became uncooperative after Signor threatened suicide.
Signor worked 25 years for the Michigan Department of Corrections before retiring. He was terminated from his coaching positions by Quincy Community Schools after district officials became aware of a criminal investigation.
