(Reuters) -U.S. drugmaker Eli Lilly expects its blockbuster weight-loss drug to officially come out of shortage in the United States in coming days, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday, citing an interview with the company’s CEO, David Ricks.
Lilly’s drug, tirzepatide, sold as Mounjaro for diabetes and Zepbound for weight management, will cease to be in shortage “very soon,” CEO David Ricks said in an interview with Bloomberg in Paris.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website lists some doses of Mounjaro and Zepbound as being in limited supply. Mounjaor has been on the FDA’s shortage list since late 2022.
Lilly and the FDA did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
Lilly said in April that it expects supply of Zepbound to remain “quite tight” in the near and midterm as it ramps up capacity.
Eli Lilly and Danish rival Novo Nordisk are racing to increase production in a weight-loss drug market estimated to reach about $150 billion by early 2030s. Both the companies’ obesity treatments belong to a class of drugs originally developed for diabetes known as GLP-1 agonists.

An out and out lie Ricks. The only reason this may be true is because you are trying to get compound usage to stop even though it is the only way thousands are able to continue on this drug. There is a shortage and will continue through late next year as you stated on your investors call in June of 2024. None of the new plants are even close to being ready for production especially since Elly Lilly continues to sign up new users even though those on these drugs for months cannot get their drugs. You are now in how many other countries? How are you supplying them? I spent hours calling pharmacies and cannot find any dosages for the past two months. How dare you say that there is not a shortage any longer? You make billions on these drugs and yet you want to cut off compounds for those that cannot find their drugs. You should be ashamed for lying to the world. The FDA will know that there is a shortage when everyone starts reporting it now. Shame shame shame on you Ricks. I hope you can sleep at night for what you are trying to do.
