MILGROVE TOWNSHIP, IN (WTVB) – A Fremont, Indiana man was killed Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a turning pickup truck.
Steuben County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mike Meeks stated in a news release that the crash took place just before 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 120 and County Road 600 West.
The initial crash scene investigation indicated that a 2010 Nissan Titan driven by 42-year-old Arthur P. Marler II of Orland, Indiana hit a black eastbound 1996 Harley-Davidson FXD motorcycle driven by 41-year-old Stephen R. Mesta as Marler was making a left turn.
Mesta was thrown from his motorcycle. Despite life saving efforts by first responders, Mesta was unable to be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Sheriff’s Department news release, Marler told police he failed to perceive the oncoming motorcycle. The crash remains under investigation by the Steuben County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team. Mesta was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
No injuries were reported form any of the occupants in Marler’s vehicle.
Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Steuben County EMS, Orland Fire Rescue, Indiana State Police, Angola Police, the Orland Town Marshal’s Office, and the Steuben County Coroner’s Office.
