BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – After being presented with maps that show at various buffer lengths which properties in the commercial and industrial district would be eligible for a recreational marijuana business, the Bronson City Council decided on Monday to let the Planning Commission decide if the matter should be pursued further.
Recreational marijuana in Bronson has been explored and discussed for over a year but so far no formal action has been taken by the City Council.
City Manager Brandon Mersman said in his report that the City of Coldwater’s GIS Department helped Bronson with creating maps to assist with the discussion.
The maps showed which properties would be eligible for a marijuana business at buffers of 200, 500 and 1,000 feet.
Council President Matt Watkins said information on revenue from these establishments and the maps should be looked at by the Bronson Planning Commission.
Following its approval by Michigan voters in November of 2018, the Bronson City Council decided two months later to opt out. Communities that opt-out can opt-in at anytime.
Michigan is among 24 states where recreational marijuana is legal.
