BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Three persons were injured in a pair of Thursday afternoon traffic crashes in Branch County.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says the first crash involved a motorcycle on Athens Road near Mendon Road in Sherwood Township at about 2:00 p.m..
Undersheriff Keith Eichler reports 18-year-old Jesse James Everett Ruby of Sherwood told deputies his 2023 Kawasaki hit a bump in the road.
He then lost control and laid the cycle down on the road. Ruby sustained injuries and was transported to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital by Lifecare Ambulance.
The second crash happened at Michigan and Newton Roads at about 3:15 p.m.. According to the Sheriff’s Department, a 2014 Dodge Avenger driven by 33-year-old Vital Richardson of Florida went through the stop sign and was struck by a 2013 Kia Sportage driven by 66-year-old Douglas Riggs of Union City.
Both vehicles left the roadway after the impact. The two drivers were transported to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital due to their injuries.
The Sheriff’s Department is still investigating both crashes.
