ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – The namesake of Trine University has died. Doctor Ralph Trine passed away on Wednesday following a long illness at the age of 82.
What was then Tri-State University was renamed Trine University in 2008 to honor Trine and his wife Sheri for their many contributions.
Ralph Trine was a 1961 mechanical engineering graduate of the school.
The Trines both served on the university’s Board of Trustees, with Ralph joining the board in 1990 and Sheri in 2010.
They were named trustees emeritus in 2020.
The Trines assisted with property acquisition and funded extensive campus beautification and capital construction projects for the university in Angola and Fort Wayne.
Ralph Trine owned Vestil Manufacturing. The business relocated from Albion, Michigan to Angola in 1982.
