COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team opened its season at home Tuesday evening with a 2-0 shutout of Chelsea.
After a scoreless first half, Austin Accardi hit a long range shot just 40 seconds into the second half to start the scoring. After Chelsea missed a penalty kick midway through the second half that could have tied the score, Essam Ahmed gave the Cardinals an insurance goal with 1:51 to play in the game on another long range shot.
Franky Ramos made three saves in goal as Coldwater outshot Chelsea 19-4.
The Cardinals are now 1-0 on the season and host Detroit Country Day Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. for varsity only action.
The Coldwater junior varsity team rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit against Chelsea to take a 2-1 lead with about two minutes to play, but then gave up a goal with about 30 seconds left in the game to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Abdulla Hagagi and Abdulhamid Munasser each scored a goal for Coldwater in the debut of new junior varsity coach Mohamed Almang.
