DEWITT, MI (WTVB) – Despite holding leads in both games, the Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team fell to East Grand Rapids 3-1 and Fenton 5-4 at the annual Panther Cup hosted by DeWitt High School Saturday.
Liam Clark scored 15 minutes into the first game, assisted by Dawood Gabry, but East Grand Rapids scored three unanswered second half goals for the win. Franky Ramos had nine saves in goal.
Against Fenton for third place in the tournament, Coldwater opened up a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes on goals from Gabry, Nasser Abdullah, and Sebastian Ocampo. Fenton rallied with three goals in the last 14 minutes of the half to tie the score at 3-3.
Fenton then scored with 30 and 19 minutes left in the game to take the lead, before Coldwater got their final goal from Liam Clark with two minutes to play.
Sebastian Ocampo, Yaseen Abdullah, and Rashed Ahmed also had assists in the game, while Franky Ramos had five saves.
The Cardinals are now 1-3 on the season and will travel to Plainwell for another non-conference match Monday.
The Coldwater junior varsity team lost their opening match of the tournament Saturday to East Grand Rapids 2-1, but then beat Fenton 6-0 in the third place game.
DeWitt won the varsity portion of their tournament with a 2-1 win over East Grand Rapids in the finals.
