NORTH WEBSTER, IN (WTVB) – A week after temperatures dropped into the mid 40s, the National Weather Service says dangerously hot conditions will take place on Tuesday with heat index values around or greater than 105 .
Forecasters have posted an Excessive Heat Watch for Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. for portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio.
It includes Branch, Hillsdale, St. Joseph and Steuben Counties. Forecasters say extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
They add there is still potential for shower and thunderstorm activity to limit high temperatures. Warm and humid conditions overnight with lows in the 70s will make it harder for people to recover from impacts of heat during the day, particularly for those without air conditioning.
You’re asked to monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
