COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Consumers Energy says it has hundreds of lineworkers working to restore power around the clock after a severe thunderstorm with damaging winds swept across Michigan late Tuesday afternoon.
As of 10:00 p.m. Tuesday just over 1,200 customers in Branch County were without power.
Norm Kapala, one of Consumers Energy’s Officers in Charge for restoration, said “Crews are moving into position and will work through the night to restore power, focusing on assessing damage and restoration of critical customers first, ensuring we can get the lights back on for our customers.”
The storm moved across Michigan, causing damage and affecting over 161,000 customers. The heaviest hit areas were Kent, Ionia, Montcalm, Gladwin, Midland, Bay and Clare counties.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for southeastern Branch County from 5:50 p.m. until 6:30 p.m because of severe thunderstorms that were located along a line extending from near Jonesville to near Coldwater, moving east at 30 mph.
The storm knocked out power for over 1,100 homes in Hillsdale County and 4,100 in Jackson County.
Big thanks to the crews who got our power up and running.
