COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Several residents of the Countryside Mobile Court on North Fillmore Road lost their homes on Tuesday night as the park was devastated by a severe thunderstorm.
Park Owner Marilyn Ostrander said in a Facebook post they were grateful to Modern Tree Solutions and Your Guy Tree Service for clearing the road into the park and for their upcoming work ahead.
Ostrander went on to say, “My heart goes out to the residents who lost their homes and to those who had damage to their vehicles. We were hit by a similar storm August 12, 2021, but this one was worse, in terms of property damage. The good news is that there were no deaths or serious injuries. We can, and will rebuild. Right now, we are trying to figure out housing options for those who lost their homes.”
Countryside Mobile Court is a senior community with 24 sites that was built in 1954.
The fast developing severe thunderstorm struck the park at around 5:30 p.m.. It had a reported wind gust of 59 miles an hour as measured two miles west of Coldwater.
A National Weather Service spotter reported hail that was seven-tenths of a inch in diameter near East Gilead.
Trees were knocked down on U.S. 12 near the Capri Drive-In and Adventure Zone.
Nearly 1,200 Consumers Energy customers to the west and south of Coldwater lost their power until early Wednesday morning.
