BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – After tax revenue agreements were approved this summer between Coldwater Solar and Coldwater and Ovid Townships, work is beginning around the project site.
According to a statement from Coldwater Solar, properties that will host solar panels have been mowed in preparation for site preparation and seeding.
Equipment deliveries and job trailer staging is also taking place at the corner of Sanford and Fenn roads.
Coldwater Solar will host a preconstruction open house at Lockwood Community Church on Tuesday, September 17 from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m..
Those who attend will be able to meet the construction team and ask questions about the project.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Coldwater Solar says they are expected to generate about $30 million in new local tax revenue over the 30 year life of the project.
Both Coldwater and Ovid Townships will be applying to the State of Michigan’s Renewable Ready Communities grant program, which could provide up to $750,000 in funding.

Perfect! There goes our pristine countryside and fertile farmland. All that made Coldwater special and scenic is going to be lost. Once the topsoil is removed no more tillable farmland. Instead acres and acres similar to a junkyard will surround our little town. Guess we don’t need grains to feed livestock or us. No more pristine wilderness. Because this is like cancer spreading across the countryside from sea to shining sea. Windmills and solar panels are all we will see.
