MATTESON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The cause of a Matteson Township house fire that broke out late Wednesday afternoon is being called electrical in nature by Bronson Fire Department officials.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says Branch County Central Dispatch notified the Bronson Fire Department of the fire at 160 Lyter Road just after 5:30 p.m. after a passerby noticed smoke coming from the eaves of the two-story farm house.
Wilber says fire crews found heavy smoke banked down to the floor upon entering the structure.
Firefighters from Bronson and Colon searched the house to confirm no one was inside and extinguished the flames.
Wilber reports the fire started in a wall between the bathroom and dining room and it burned a hole in the second story floor.
Less then 500 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire. No one was home when the fire broke out.
Damage to the structure was estimated at $15,000 with damage to the contents listed at $5,000.
Crews were on the scene for three hours. No injuries were reported.
Lifecare Ambulance also responded to the scene and the American Red Cross was notified to aid the occupants.
