COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a resolution on Monday night which authorizes the establishment and appointment of absentee voter counting board or boards by the City of Coldwater Election Commission.
The Council took the action following a request from City Clerk Shauna Chávez.
She said with an increasing percentage of Coldwater’s registered voters electing to use absentee voter ballots, the use of an absent voter counting board will improve the efficiency in counting ballots and decrease the burden on election inspectors on Election Day.
While the city has the option of tabulating ballots up to eight days prior to the election, it was the intention of Chávez for the November 5 General Election to only process and tabulate the absentee ballots on election day in the AVCB precinct.
She reported the City of Coldwater has 9,169 registered voters with over 2,200 requests for absentee ballots so far.
Applications for absentee ballots for the November election are available through the City Clerk’s office. You can contact Chávez at 279-6928 if you would like to apply to vote via absentee. Branch County early voting will be held from October 26 to November 3 at the Dearth Community Center.
