COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two criminal cases against a Coldwater Lake man who is facing nine charges are on hold after it was determined in a Branch County District Court hearing on Friday he was incompetent at this time to stand trial.
22-year-old McCain Mathew Snyder is facing two counts of assault with intent to murder and two counts of failure to stop at the scene of a serious impairment crash after he allegedly ran down and injured the grandparents of a girl he was reportedly stalking on June 10 in Kinderhook Township.
Snyder is also facing three additional counts of Aggravated Stalking on persons other then the crash victims as well as charges of using a computer to commit a crime and malicious use of a telephone service.
Snyder was ordered by District Judge Brent Wiegle in June to undergo an examination for criminal competency and responsibility.
Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien said on Friday his office felt the opinion from the examiner was sound. Defense Attorney Lisa Hanna said she agreed with Stempien and she had no objection to the report being submitted to the court.
Snyder is being held in the Branch County Jail on a bond of over $10 million. Attempts are being made to find Snyder a bed in a state hospital.
After Friday’s ruling, a probable cause hearing was pushed back to December 3 in District Court.
