COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – On Senior Night, senior Dawood Gabry came through for the Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team, scoring a pair of goals, including one with 26 seconds left to play, as the Cardinals beat Battle Creek Lakeview 2-1 Thursday night.
Lakeview took the early lead in the contest, scoring on a long range shot with 2:52 to play in the first half. The Cardinals answered with the first of Gabry’s goals with 15:07 left in the second half, assisted by Riath Shaamala.
Coldwater got a corner kick with less than one minute to play. Liam Clark took the kick, with the ball bouncing off several players before Nasser Abdullah passed the ball to Gabry for a tap-in.
Alex Martinez and Franky Ramos shared time as goalkeeper, with each making one save.
Besides Gabry, Coldwater’s two other seniors Rashed Ahmed and Asher VanDellen were honored before the game.
The Cardinals improve to 11-6-1 and will close out the regular season at Mattawan Saturday.
The Coldwater junior varsity team beat Lakeview 7-2.
