Betty Mary Perkins, 87, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2024 at her home in Coldwater surrounded by her loved ones.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
The family will receive guests for visitation that morning from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Betty was born October 20, 1936 to Stephen and Betty (Kovac) Rakosi in Dearborn, MI.
Betty graduated with her Bachelor’s from Central Michigan University to begin her career in Education. She later pursued public service as the Alcona County Treasurer and continued that passion at MFCI, from which she retired after many dedicated years.
As a very active woman, Betty found yet another career following her retirement as a custom embroiderer/entrepreneur for her company B’s Embroidery.
Her final career brought her to Cracker Barrel where she was dearly cherished as not only an employee but also by the many families she regularly served.
Keeping her community always in her heart, Betty was instrumental in establishing the Alcona County Fair, which just celebrated its 52nd year.
She followed her faith in Presbyterian and Methodist congregations throughout her life.
Betty’s creativity and sense of adventure were pillars of her personality; among her many talents were sewing, cooking, gardening, photography, and home improvement projects.Betty had many achievements throughout her life, but her greatest accomplishment was her family and the love that she shared with them.
Betty’s legacy is her children Beth Ann (Gary) Perkins-Simmons of Coldwater, MI, DawnLee Walton of Newnan, GA, Stephen (Marie) Perkins of Caldwell, ID; her 7 grandchildren Amanda (Dave) Weyh, Ashley (David) Cox, Jacob (Kelly) Simmons, Michael DeYoung, Cameron Simmons, Madelyn (Alissa) Nordby-Moore, Trygave (Megan) Nordby; her 5 great grandchildren Gavin, Graysen, Jamie, Elliott, Genevieve; her many loving nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Koco.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, and her son-in-law Jim Walton.
