David Lavern Rumsey, 65, of Union City, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
In keeping with David’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family is being served by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation of Union City.
David was born on September 5, 1959 to Lavern Richard and Frances Lorraine (Oliver) Rumsey in Coldwater, Michigan. He graduated from Union City High School with the Class of 1977. David married Linda Millard on October 1, 2005 in Sherwood, Michigan. David worked as a self-employed carpenter. He loved to play softball, fishing, was a “foodie”, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
David is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Jami (Curtis) Smyers of Navarre, FL; grandchildren, Lilly Goetz of Union City, Chad Goetz of Union City, Kyleigh Goetz of Navarre, FL, and Gavin Loomis of Quincy; great-greatgrandchild, Lucas Endris of Union City; siblings, Donna (David) Jungers, Carole Blankenship, Patty (Mike) Tyler, Mary (Joe) Reyes, Barbara (Larry) Means, and Richard (Mel) Rumsey; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Mazie.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Lou Rumsey, and his other two dogs, Magic and Raven.
