BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – An ordinance that gives the Bronson City Manager or their designee the authority to issue a “snow emergency” during extreme snow fall situations is on the agenda for Monday’s Bronson City Council meeting.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says in his report to the Council that the ordinance would prohibit on-street parking during a declared snow emergency which would allow the Department of Public Works to clear snow efficiently.
It also gives the Bronson Police Department the ability to tow vehicles parked on City streets during snow emergencies.
Mersman says they have done this in the past, but this will give them the ability to tow vehicles if needed.
The ordinance states that a snow emergency maybe declared, “Whenever snow has accumulated or there is a possibility that snow will accumulate to such a depth that extraordinary snow removal operations will be required on City streets.”
Once its declared, vehicles have to be moved within six hours if they are parked on state trunk lines or major streets. They have to be moved within 12 hours if they are parked on local streets or in alleys.
