BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – As North Carolina residents try to put their lives back together after Hurricane Helene, they got help this weekend from some generous Branch County residents.
Joe and Patti Gibson along with Scott and Jacinda Locke helped organize donations to provide assistance to the victims of the disaster.
Donations were dropped off behind the Quincy Fire Station on Saturday.
The original plan was to fill a 53 foot tractor trailer but there were so many donations, a second semi had to be used.
Supplies arrived in North Carolina on Sunday as the effort was coordinated through the North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
Patti Gibson said on her Facebook page they received over $22,000 in cash donations. They spent the money on needed supplies such as 10 pallets of water, pallets of toilet paper, paper towels, baby wipes, diapers, baby formula and all sorts of non perishable foods.
They also bought camp stoves and fuel cylinders, sleeping bags, tarps, gloves, flash lights, head lamps, batteries, over the counter medicin, baby bottles, sippy cups, blankets and more.
They were also able to deliver nine dual powered generators with 10 propane tanks.
