COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners accepted a recommendation from the county’s 9-1-1 Board during a nearly two-a-half-hour work session on Thursday afternoon in the contract negotiations between the county and LifeCare Ambulance.
The Commissioners went along with the 9-1-1 Board’s recommendation that the county pay an annual subsidy of $192,500 for two full time ambulances and a third ambulance that would be available eight hours a day, five days a week.
The proposed new contract would run for three years.
Two options were originally presented this summer. County Administrator Bud Norman said LifeCare made the proposal after the 911 Board asked them in August to come back with a third option.
The first option that would have cost $385,000 was a three unit system in which two units would be available around the clock while the third unit would work 12 hours per day. The second option called for two units operating 24 hours a day at a cost of $75,000.
LifeCare Vice President Steve Frisbie said they came up with an option somewhere in the middle.
The old contract between Branch County and LifeCare expired in September.
Commissioners brought forward the 911 Board recommendation to next Tuesday’s regular meeting. Formal action is expected at that time.
