COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners decided during their Thursday work session to bring forward plans for renovations to the county courtrooms with an estimated target price of $2-point-8 million.
Abonmarche Byce of Kalamazoo submitted design and engineering bids for renovations to the Circuit, District and Probate Courts.
Circuit Court Judge Bill O’Grady said during last week’s meeting the courtrooms are long overdue for renovations to meet A.D.A. compliance.
The Commissioners have allocated $3 million of the county’s ARPA funds for courtroom and bathroom renovations in the courthouse along with painting and caulking. But almost a third of that money has already been spent in the building.
County Administrator Bud Norman said a contingency in capital outlay could help cover the costs.
A federal grant could also be used for the project. Commissioners have requested cuts from the original plans and Architect Stan Skopek expressed his confidence he can get the costs down.
Formal action could be taken by Commissioners during Tuesday’s meeting.
