BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It’s hard to believe after all of the rain in May, June and July that Branch County is dealing with worsening drought conditions.
But thanks to very little rain since early August, that’s the situation right now.
The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor released on Thursday shows moderate drought conditions in the southern parts of Branch, St. Joseph and Hillsdale Counties with severe drought being reported in the far southern part of Hillsdale County near the Ohio state line.
The northern part of Branch County along with Calhoun County is considered to be abnormally dry.
No rain fell in Branch County for 13 days before last Saturday’s storms. The M.S.U. Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm measured 1.77 inches of rain between this past Saturday and Monday.
Despite last weekend’s soggy weather, only 3.07 has been measured at that location since September 1 and just about four inches has been measured there since August 6.
The dry conditions are expected to continue into next week. The extended forecast is only calling for a slight chance of showers on Wednesday.
