COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Quincy man was ordered to serve between 30 months and 15 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he entered a no contest plea on August 30 to a amended felony charge of third degree criminal sexual conduct.
41-year-old Shawn Michael Benton must also register as a sex offender with the State of Michigan.
Benton was given credit for three days already served in jail.
In exchange for his plea, six original charges filed against Benton including four counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct were dismissed by prosecutors.
Besides the first degree counts, Benton was charged with second degree C.S.C. and accosting children for immoral purposes following a Michigan State Police investigation.
According to Branch County court documents, the alleged victims were two females who were born in 2008 and 2009.
Benton denied the allegations about the sexual assaults when he was interviewed by the State Police.
