LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Figures released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed Branch County’s unemployment rate dropped to under four percent in September.
After it was 4-point-5 percent in August, Branch County’s jobless rate in September dropped to 3-point-8 percent.
Branch County had the 13th lowest unemployment rate among Michigan’s 83 counties.
The report said not seasonally adjusted jobless rates decreased in 16 of Michigan’s
17 labor market areas over the month. Labor force levels rose in 14 Michigan regions over the month.
According to the monthly survey of employers, Michigan not seasonally adjusted payroll employment rose by 17,000 between August and September.
Wayne Rourke from the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics said, “Michigan labor market areas demonstrated expected unemployment rate reductions during September. Regional payroll jobs gains largely reflected seasonal hiring in education-related industries due to the start of the academic year.”
Unemployment rates dropped by almost a point in St. Joseph and Hillsdale Counties. The jobless rate in those two counties was 4-point-4 percent. The unemployment rate in Calhoun County also dropped to 4-point-9 percent.
Michigan’s September unemployment rate remained steady at 4-point-5 percent.
September unemployment rates around Michigan ranged from three percent in Livingston County to 7-point-2 percent in Oscoda County.
