PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater and Union City cross country teams both had their regionals on Saturday at Portage.
Both of the Union City squads punched for their tickets for the MHSAA Finals next weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
The Union City girls team captured the Division Three regional title by nine points. The Chargers were first with 61 points thanks to three runners in the top 10. Buchanan and Saugatuck both had 70 points.
Union City’s Skyler Fraley was second with a time of 19:37.80. Allison Gautsche was sixth, Alissa Skirka was tenth, Parker Williams was 16th and Elizabeth Arlt was 27th.
The Union City boys also qualified for M.I.S. with a third place finish at the regional meet. Saugatuck was first with 29 points followed by Buchanan with 65 points and Union City with 72 points. The Chargers beat out Schoolcraft by 35 points for the final transfer spot.
Union City’s Ben Gautsche was second in time of 16:42.34. He was edged by Watervliet’s Daniel Mandujano for thr individual regional title by about 14 seconds.
Jason Shoop was ninth for the Chargers while Noah June was 20th, Cohen Burdick was 21st, Cullen Decker was 28th and Aidan Taylor was 29th.
In the Division Two regional, the Coldwater boys were 12th while the girls were 13th.
Coldwater’s Gwen Eby qualified for the MHSAA Division Two finals as an individual next weekend at Michigan International Speedway as she was 14th in a time of 20:24.10.

Annika Johnson was 41st, Miyah Moore was 86th, Olivia Golemastis was 89th, and Elizabeth Torres-Ojeda was 95th.
Drew Vanderpuyl was top finisher for Coldwater in the boys meet as he was 34th with a time of 17:43.60.
Sebastian Hernandez was 48th, Luke Aerts 53rd, Aiden Parker 71st and Parker Hetrick was 75th.
