BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Two Branch County players have been named to the Michigan Sports Writers All State first team in Division Seven and Eight for the 2024 football season.
The team was formerly called the Associated Press All-State Team. Members were selected by 10 sports writers from around Michigan.
Named to the first team were Bronson’s Kam Brackett and Union City’s Caden Hughes. Both are seniors.
Brackett was named as a defensive back. He led the state with 10 interceptions which included a 101-yard pick six. Brackett also had 24 tackles and two fumble recoveries.

Hughes was named as a defensive lineman. He had 69 tackles including 11 tackles for a loss. Hughes also recorded four sacks, had two fumble recoveries and scored a defensive touchdown.

Two Union City players, offensive lineman Gavin Kelly and linebacker Aiden Decker, were named to the second team.
