BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It was a winning night for Branch County boys basketball teams in the Big 8 Conference on Thursday night.
The Quincy Orioles used a big second half to defeat arch rival Reading 51-33 on Thursday night in the Coolest Gym in Michigan.
Quincy trailed 18-17 at halftime but turned the game around in the third quarter when they outscored the Rangers 20-9 to take a 37-25 lead. Quincy kept the energy up and finished the game strong.
Brandon Miner had a double-double for the Orioles with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Alex Dunn added 15 points and eight rebounds while Ryan Kempter had eight points, two rebounds and two steals. Quincy is 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the Big 8.
Quincy’s J.V. team is now 5-0 after they defeated Reading 53-17. Carson Haylett led Quincy with 12 points and eight rebounds. Bryson Estlow had 10 points while Garrett Haylett grabbed eight rebounds.
The Bronson Vikings had lost eight of their last ten games with Concord but the Vikings managed to defeat the Yellow Jackets 48-42 in overtime. The Vikings are 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big 8. Bronson also won the J.V. game 51-42.
The Union City Chargers bounced back from Tuesday’s loss at Springport as they won at Maple Valley 50-44. Aidan Decker led a balanced Union City attack with 19 points. Eli Payne added 15 points while Rick Austin had 10 points.
The Chargers are 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big 8.
