COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two criminal cases against a Coldwater Lake man who is facing nine charges are still on hold after it was determined he remains incompetent at this time to stand trial.
23-year-old McCain Mathew Snyder is facing two counts of assault with intent to murder and two counts of failure to stop at the scene of a serious impairment crash after he allegedly ran down and injured the grandparents of a girl he was reportedly stalking on June 10, 2024 in Kinderhook Township.
Snyder is also facing three additional counts of Aggravated Stalking on persons other then the crash victims as well as charges of using a computer to commit a crime and malicious use of a telephone service.
Snyder was ordered by District Judge Brent Wiegle last June to undergo an examination for criminal competency and responsibility at the State Center For Forensic Psychiatry.
A report was issued on January 8. Branch County Prosecutor Zach Stempien and Defense Attorney Lisa Hanna agreed with the findings of the report during a District Court hearing on Wednesday that Snyder was still incompetent at this time to stand trial.
But it’s felt there’s a substantial likelihood Snyder can regain competency if he should get treatment at the Forensic Center in Ypsilanti.
Under state law, the deadline for Snyder to be competent to stand trial after getting treatment is January 1, 2026. Snyder is being held on a bond of over $10 million.
