COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal varsity basketball teams accomplished a rare feat Friday on Hall of Fame Night at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium. They took both halves of a doubleheader against the Marshall Redhawks by identical 44-41 scores.
The Lady Cardinals got the night started by leading 16-7 after the first quarter and 24-11 at halftime. Marshall had a 10-9 edge in the third to cut the lead to 33-21. The Redhawks started to heat up in the final quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 20-11. Marshall briefly held a 41-40 lead, but Audrina Bucklin’s clutch 3-point basket from the left corner with 15.2 seconds left in regulation put the game away for good:
A Coley Burkhardt free throw with 2.1 seconds left created the final margin of victory.
Marie Powers had 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks off the bench to lead Coldwater. Mya Porter added a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Audrina Bucklin finished with 8 points, 2 boards, and 2 assists.
The Cardinals improved to 8-4 overall, 5-1 in the Interstate 8, and travel to East Lansing on Tuesday.
Emily Dingee led all scorers with 16 points, including a 10-for-11 performance at the free throw line in the fourth quarter, for Marshall. Grace Shubert added 10 as the Redhawks fell to 6-2 overall, 3-2 in the Interstate 8.

The boys contest between Coldwater and Marshall played out in much the same way. The Cardinals led 11-4 after the first quarter, 20-12 at halftime, and 37-24 after three. The Redhawks had a 17-7 advantage in the final stanza, and with 11.1 seconds left in regulation, had a chance to force overtime:
Niko Downs led all scorers with 15 points and 2 assists, while Ayden Dirschell had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Austin Downs added 9 points, 4 boards, and 2 steals. With their fourth straight win, Coldwater improved to 8-6 overall, 5-1 in the Interstate 8, and remain a half-game ahead of Marshall in the league standings. The Cardinals are off until next Friday’s home doubleheader against Hastings.
For the Redhawks, who fell to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the I-8 with their fourth straight loss, Austin Miller had 13 points and 8 rebounds, while Austin Burns had 12 points and 6 boards.
